The flagship 2.5 acre site of Tower Works is being developed by Yorkshire Forward and is expected to set new standards for sustainable urban development.
Tower Works, with its distinctive Italianate towers, epitomises Holbeck Urban Village and its rich architectural heritage. Acquired by the regional development agency in May 2005, negotiations are currently underway with preffered developer Isis Waterside Regeneration, who own neighbouring site Granary Wharf.
Early proposals suggest that there will be five new buildings and the towers themselves will be opened up to sit in the middle of an Italian style piazza. As with all developments within the village boundary this will be mixed-use with shops, bars and cafes at ground level and offices and residential apartments above. The total office space generated is expected to be 111,678. Redevelopment is also expected to include 150 residential units and 7,810 sq ft retail or leisure space.
"The development of Tower Works promises to be revolutionary in its approach to urban design, renaissance and sustainability"
Chris Hilton, Yorkshire Forward
