The disused viaduct that runs alongside the urban village has long been proposed as a new route linking Holbeck Urban Village into the city centre.
Bauman Lyons Architects and Arup engineers were commissioned to undertake the detailed design for this project with the outcome due to be presented for public consulation in April.
Proposals included a green landscaped elevated skywalk and space in the arches in between to be used for existing and new businesses in the area.
If accepted the design work should take a further year to complete and a planning application would then be required for approval before contactors could be appointed and work could begin.
Whilst this a fantastic and extremely creative opprtunity for the urban village, public consultation and otehr factors have prioritised other areas of public as being more pressing including Neville Street, Sweet Street and community safety and connectivity.
The viaduct is still an option for the future but this will be re-investigated at a later date.
