Full steam ahead at Engine House Cafe

Posted 28/07/2008

Brother and sister team Catherine and Jeremy English have embarked on an exciting new venture after a undergoing a rigorous selection process to become the Round Foundry's newest resident.

The pair originally discovered the Engine House, part of the second phase of development at the Round Foundry, in 2006 and instantly loved the building and the location. In 2008 they finally saw their dream become a reality as the Engine House Cafe opened its doors.

Jeremy says: "We had looked all over from Ilkley to Kirkstall and one of the hardest things was trying to imagine our business in those spaces and deciding on a name. Here it was easy to see the potential and the name came as part of the building's heritage. It's a nice mix of residents and businesses and we were all picked to complement each other."

Catherine had just returned from travelling in Australia and Jeremy had been thinking about starting his own business when they decided to open the Engine House Cafe.

Catherine adds: "We really wanted to provide a complete solution offering light lunches and sandwiches but also an up market evening restaurant that offers high quality food for a reasonable price. The other businesses here have been great offering advice and support and we think that now there are a few more of us the area has a really nice offer for the evening crowd."

Open Monday to Saturday the Engine House Cafe certainly achieves its goal offering daily specials such as pan fried king scallops wrapped in proscuitto, olive and sun-blush tapenade or roast rump of lamb with mustard mash, onion marmalade and red wine jus for under £12 per person.
