Where: Various across Leeds
When: Various dates from 14th May to 27th May

Situation Leeds 2007 focuses on exploring the relationship with contemporary art and the public realm. It aims to highlight the role that art can play in regeneration through a series of events and installations across the city.

There are a number of events taking place across Holbeck Urban Village that support this unique arts festival.

Garden Project
Round Foundry Media Centre 14th-25th May

Leeds based artist and landscape designer, Phill Hopkins, has been invited by Round Foundry Media Centre to create a project surrounding the intimate world of plant life. The Garden Project at Round Foundry Media Centre will explore the fascinating interface between plant life and the modern built environment. This artist-led project will not only challenge our thoughts about the role of plants in our daily lives but also look back in time to industrial Britain when plants formed the basis of the Industrial Revolution.

What do you think?
Round Foundry Media Centre 14th - 25th May

Matthew Verdon has designed a unique installation entitled What do you think? which is a sound installation consisting of two people alternately reciting Jurgen Habermas’ rules of discourse. Habermas talks of the public sphere, true democracy and communicative action. The work functions as a subtle and discrete intervention in a public space, and it talks of ways to ensure every voice can be heard in public.

Metaphysical Infinty Artiface
Dark Arches 19th-27th May

A projection of a pattern by Harry Meadley, that continuously consumes itself and infinitely permutates; that is however, until the projection is disrupted by the presence of a person. Once the pattern has been disturbed, it fights to form itself around you. Your presence and movement now control the pattern, and since every person is a different shape, only the people present at each moment will witness the permutations they manage to create. Explore with your mind and with your body.

Planning Permisison
Tower Works 14th-27th May

Tower Works takes chance to reflect upon its past, present and future as, artist Ameila Crouch introduces us to a series of short texts, fastened to fencing and street furniture around Tower Works in Holbeck. The form of these texts mimics A4 laminated notices, announcing ‘applications for planning permission’, that can also be seen around this area.
