representation of holbeck urban village

Living @ Granary Wharf

In a prominent position in the north-east corner of Holbeck Urban Village, on the banks of the canal, Granary Wharf is set to host three striking buildings created by Isis.

Isis submitted planning proposals in April 2005 and after careful consultation are awaiting planning permission for 213 apartments spread across two of the blocks. Isis propose to retain the existing retail units and complement these with a further 31,722 sq ft of retail space on the ground floor of the third building.

A striking round tower will house 160 apartments all differing in layout, whilst the building at the opposite end of the scheme will house a further 113 apartments at the upper levels. This building will focus on affordable housing and offer different approaches to city living including duplex apartments that will offer families the option of a city centre location. The remainder of this building will be used for office accomodation and leisure activities.

The middle building will include a 130 bed hotel with a ground floor canal side restaurant. There will be a roof top terrace and lounge bar included in this building. Over 70% of the land used for this scheme will remain as a public space with the buildings themselves only utilising 30%, this will allow the public access to the canal and space for events such as farmers markets and concerts.

The three buildings are designed to create a maximum viewing of the area beyond and to allow further access routes and open space within the urban village.
