Holbeck residents are celebrating a triumphant victory as their post office was re-opened following a lengthy petition led by local campaigners.

The reprieve was granted in October and the new post office at Cleveleys road is now open for business, with services including bill payments, money grams, insurance, E-top-up cards and pension withdrawals.

Local resident, Diane Dobson,Chair of the Gaitskell Community Association and a member of the Holbeck Gala Committee has campaigned hard to bring the service back: “The post office isn’t just somewhere to buy stamps, it forms the backbone of a community and provides a place for people to meet each other and to get much needed services on their doorsteps.”

Sub Post Master, Khalid Hameed is delighted with the result: “This isa fantastic victory for Holbeck thanks to the hard work and perseverance of local residents and all who signed the petition. Now we need more people to use the service so that I can apply for a licence to process car tax and passport applications, offering even more services locally.”
